Underlying Anke Lohrer’s work is an elemental absorption with poetic narrative structures. A passage in one of her texts can justify this poetic placement of her position: “the wish to be exalted - degraded to the human scale”. This mental sketch articulates a motif of longing that becomes the driving force for artistic production. Her videos express the unbridgeable discrepancy between the freedom of thought and feelings in the imagination and the necessities of a life grounded in existence. The artist’s books explore the sensibility of perception and call on the associative power of the viewer. Heavy folios create an impression of mediaeval manuscripts. They invite us to browse, page for page, and to imagine an associative text from the fragments, catchwords, drawings, collages, typography and photographs. The text is left open - traces from a world of free desires and thoughts.
